Won't Somebody Think of the Parents?
Abusive parents are the real victims when kids go no contact
“Comfort the afflicted, afflict the comfortable” is a basic moral principle. The New York Times takes the opposite tack.
I’m sure that the ungrateful kids who don’t return calls are all the rage in the Hamptons, but the people actually suffering in this debate are overwhelmingly queer kids who have been kicked out of their homes for coming out and are living on the street. How about running an op-ed titled “Love Your Kids Unconditionally, No Matter Who They Are”?
My parents are great. I know some people who have made the hard choice to go no contact with their folks, and it is always a last resort after years of abuse, refusal to apologize for said abuse, and narcissistic inability to recognize that the relationship is now one of equality rather than domination.
